Presenting Presence

My passion is to inspire us all to truly listen and support those around us – our kids, family and friends, colleagues and the person next to us in the supermarket queue!

I call it ‘being Rock’.

We can all be a Rock for those around us – give our time and presence so someone feels heard, seen and witnessed. And, as Prince Harry says, sometimes we need someone so we can offload our s**t, but other times we may need someone to also hear our joy!

Lots of us live hectic, busy days interspersed with the respite of a fitness class, TV or social media.

What is less common for many of us is time to just ‘be’ without any ‘to do’ list agenda: the special moments of conversations in the car, over a cup of coffee, on a walk, sitting with a glass of wine looking at a view.

It is in the space of companionship that the gift of being alongside emerges and allows people to share their thoughts, fears, hopes and dreams.

My hope is that we can all create more space in our lives by just using the simple gift of being present: allowing someone to feel the full experience of our attention. Because it is in these moments of presence, that things get resolved.

We can never underestimate the utter relief someone feels in knowing, even for a moment, that they were totally important and their words and feelings were heard.

As Maya Angelou said:

People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.
